Jay Z Officially Responds to Pleas Remove Line from Barneys

He's got 99 problems but Barney's ain't one...
Jay Z is not going to remove his clothing line from Barneys; and he made an official statement via his Life+Times site explaining why...

"This collaboration lives in a place of giving and is about the Foundation. I am not making a dime from this collection; I do not stand to make millions, as falsely reported. I need to make that fact crystal clear. The Shawn Carter Foundation is the beneficiary and the foundation is receiving 25% of all sales from the collaboration, 10% of all sales generated in the store on November 20th and an additional donation from Barneys. This money is going to help individuals facing socio-economic hardships to help further their education at institutions of higher learning. My idea was born out of creativity and charity… not profit.

I move and speak based on facts and not emotion. I haven’t made any comments because I am waiting on facts and the outcome of a meeting between community leaders and Barneys. Why am I being demonized, denounced and thrown on the cover of a newspaper for not speaking immediately? The negligent, erroneous reports and attacks on my character, intentions, and the spirit of this collaboration have forced me into a statement I didn’t want to make without the full facts.

Making a decision prematurely to pull out of this project, wouldn’t hurt Barneys or Shawn Carter, but all the people that stand a chance at higher education. I have been working with my team ever since the situation was brought to my attention to get to the bottom of these incidents and at the same time find a solution that doesn’t harm all those that stand to benefit from this collaboration.

I am against discrimination of any kind, but if I make snap judgements, no matter who it’s towards, aren’t I committing the same sin as someone who profiles? I am no stranger to being profiled and I truly empathize with anyone that has been put in that position. Hopefully this brings forth a dialogue to effect real change. – Shawn “JAY Z” Carter"

Do you agree with Mr. Carter's choice?

Eight people injured at Howard University’s Yardfest

Via Wash Post
Yardfest, the annual afternoon-long hip-hop concert held on the quadrangle at Howard, went quiet not long after 3 p.m. when D.C. and university police responded to reports of fans rushing the gates. “It has created a public-safety hazard,” said Officer Paul Metcalf, a D.C. police spokesman. For at least two decades, Yardfest was free and open to the public, making it one of the hallmark events of Howard’s homecoming weekend. But this year, organizers made the concert a ticketed event, charging $5 for each patron. Most of the people left outside the closed gates did not have tickets, though it was possible some ticketed patrons got caught in the raucous group.Video posted on the Internet showed young people crowding a gate and some climbing over walls to get inside.

After the incident, Howard University sent out a notice on Twitter that the concert would resume once people “outside of Yardfest calm down.” The concert started again about 4:30 p.m. with a performance by Detroit rapper Big Sean. Juicy J and A$AP Ferg were on the bill, but the concert ended shortly after 6 p.m.

Bow Wow Comments on Recent Catfish Episode, Says He's "Honored" &" It's Flattering"

Last night's episode of Catfish was kind of crazy. In case you missed it, a 19 yr old aspiring model thought she was dating Bow Wow online after the impersonator wired her $10,000. Then get this, the impersonator is actually a "stud" lesbian that uses her cousin, (who's voice sounds nothing like Bow Wow's), to talk on the phone to the model for her.

Amongst all the tweets about lambskin and maxi dresses, the real Bow Wow felt compelled to send a video response to both the model and the catfish inviting them to his show, 106 & Park.
