Show Review: Big K.R.I.T. Makes You Pay Attention

Hard hitting bass lines and smoke filling the air, 2 members of TWO9 rush the stage unapologetically. As female DJ Osh Kosh spins the first track, rap members Curtis and Original Fani, jump on stage and turn up the excitement. On first glance, this may have seemed like a yet another trap music crew, but the audience was in for quite a surprise. After a couple tracks, two more members, FatKidsBrotha hopped on stage. Bringing a slightly Midwest, west coast vibe stylewise; these two started off their set screaming “F*CK THE POLICE” with glaring red and blue lights that followed. The crowd followed the chants and threw middle fingers in the air. But just as the audience got settled in, and following a “mary jane” break, TWO9 had one more surprise in store. 8 of them rejoined on stage to perform along with one more unexpected person, a white guy… with dreads! Caucasian CeeJ and Jace, whom make up Retro Sushi, are the last duo to join the crew which begins to give an explanation to their name, and they equally kill the stage to completion. This crew provides the audience with a distinct vibe from most groups that tend to have a similar style to (A$AP MOB, OFWGKTA). Yet, what makes them unique is that they are indeed different duos with different flows that make a super group of 9. And it was only the beginning of the show.

Just as you thought you reached your eargasmic max, Big K.R.I.T. enters from stage right wearing all black with a fitted. Bass thumping, 808 pumping smoke filled riding music blasted from the speakers, but not just any type of riding music ….Cadillac riding music. The dj booth was decked out and shaped in an ivory and chrome plated Cadillac. Letting his music be the statement he opened the show with “Country Shit”. The crowd went in pandemonium! Big Krit conquered the stage with his aggressive demeanor as he attacked the lyrics to “Something Right”. You can feel the ego of the crowd begin to boost as he transitioned to “Talkin Bout Nothing” from the mixtape King Remembered in Time. Then he had everyone feeling like a boss when he performed “New Agenda”. His performances were like waves as he took us on intense highs and laid back lows as he performed songs such as “Lac Lac Lac”, “Rotate”, “Riding Dirty and my Trunk”. Finally, he re-introduced some of his greatest hits from “Money on the Floor” and ended with his newest single “Mt. Olympus”. It was surely a night to remember. His diverse music gives him a unique twist as a conscious rapper with a country twang. Throughout the night, he consistently showed his appreciation to his fans for all the love they’ve shown thus far, connecting with his fans like no other artist. To much satisfaction, he gave an amazing show proving himself to be a very underrated and underground artist. “YEAH HO!”
