More about nothing: My Funny Valentine

My Funny Valentine

♪♫ My funny valentine, sweet comic like valentine, you make me smile with my heart, your looks are laughable, un-photographable, yet your my favorite work of art ♪♫
~Frank Sinatra

So I had a very interesting weekend. Valentine’s Day wasn’t as bad as I thought it would have been. I actually was looking forward to it .My valentine was my best friend GlaMa. Ironically in the love department we live in the same valley. We share similar thoughts, views and opinions on our mental, emotional and physical views on where we are with being ready for love. We decided to take love and living our best single life by the horns and ride its deep crazy waves. We went to a singles mixer in the city. We were under the impression that people would be in our age range. It definitely was false advertisement. I’m talking 35 and ticking honey. Usually the 30’s and up crowd woudn’t bother me seeing as though I don’t know how to mix and mingle with people my age. I feel like we have a nothing in common. It’s almost as if I have the mindset of a 35 year old trapped in a 25 year old body. We met a few characters at the event. The 1st character was a weird guy named Bixby. The name alone sounds like a cornball. No shade! This guy was the total package cornball, creep and asshole. Throughout the whole 15 minute conversation between us and my best friend he never once looked at our faces. He literally kissed my hand and looked at my ass. I was too done. I looked from left to right, front to back at this pitiful, desperate and hopeless crowd for an inkling of potential. The very few potential guys I had spotted left and went home with the Jews. BLOWN!!!Then I met Shea, a breath of fresh air. The conversation went great. A few laughs, sips and then wait for it ….I exhaled. (In my Savannah voice; Whitney Houston’s character in Waiting to Exhale) He was definitely not what I expected. Who would have knew that this middle aged white divorced man could even remotely mentally stimulate me. He gave me his business card and we said our goodnights. And all in all… it was a good night. V-Day Music: Ne-Yo Drops a 3 Song EP Ode to Love

Ne-Yo blesses us with 3 Simple Rules for Valentines Day in the form of a 3 song EP. Check out the lovely tunes below:

What's Beef: Drake apologizes for Phillip Seymour Rolling Stone Cover Shade, but Still Feels Violated.

Drake caught a lot of heat for tweeting how pissed he was with Rolling Stone's cover switcheroo. To add insult to injury, he claimed they misquoted him on his feelings about Kanye West's lyrical delivery on Yeezus.

After much backlash, Drizzy decided to address it via his very own OVO blog:

With today being the 5th anniversary of So Far Gone I figured it’s fitting to return to it’s place of its origin in order to clear the air about an extremely emotional day. I completely support and agree with Rolling Stone replacing me on the cover with the legendary Phillip Seymour Hoffman. He is one of the most incredible actors of our time and a man that deserves to be immortalized by this publication. My frustration stemmed from the way it was executed. The circumstances at hand are completely justifiable (on the magazines behalf), but I was not able to salvage my story or my photos and that was devastating. They ran the issue without giving me a choice to be in it or not. I would have waited until it was my time because I understand the magnitude of the cover they chose but I just wasn’t given that option and that made me feel violated. I apologize to anybody who took my initial comments out of context because in no way would I ever want to offend the Hoffman family or see myself as bigger than that moment. I am still the same person. Today I was forced out of my character and felt the need to react swiftly. These days are the worst ones. Waking up after a great night in the studio and it’s your day to be picked apart. After dwelling on it for a few hours or days you will come to the conclusion that you brought it on yourself almost every time. So here I am having that moment. I once again apologize to everybody who took my cover comments the wrong way. I respect Rolling Stone for being willing to give a kid from Toronto a shot at the cover. I guess this is a day to learn and grow.
Sincerely,
The Boy
*Awkward Turtle!* It's nice that he could admit to his faults, still address his frustrations, all while being grammatically correct. But was the last line even necessary? Like his comments about Macklemore's text post to Kendrick, it seemed fake. If you're going to apologize about this set of tweets, you a lot more people apology blog posts.

New Video: Nicki Minaj raises all manly hell with her new song artwork and video "Looking Ass N*gga"

Nicki Minaj had dudes on social media going crazy today, and not because of her looks. Many men were up in arms over the male bashing lyrics she spit in her new single "Looking Ass N*gga". But aside from that, the Malcolm X portrait used as the song's artwork. To that she had this to say:

"What seems to be the issue now? Do you have a problem with me referring to the people Malcolm X was ready to pull his gun out on as Lookin Ass Niggaz? Well, I apologize. That was never the official artwork nor is this an official single. This is a conversation. Not a single. I am in the video shooting at Lookin Ass Niggaz and there happened to be an iconic photo of Malcolm X ready to do the same thing for what he believed in!!!! It is in no way to undermine his efforts and legacy. I apologize to the Malcolm X estate if the meaning of the photo was misconstrued. The word "nigga" causes so much debate in our community while the "nigga" behavior gets praised and worship. Let's not. Apologies again to his family. I have nothing but respect an adoration for u. The photo was removed hours ago. Thank you"

Listen to her interview with NY radio host Angie Martinez below:

Directed by NABIL, "Looking Ass N*gga" is off the upcoming Young Money album "Rise Of An Empire" & her upcoming album solo "The Pink Print".

More About Nothing: Bad Decisions, Good Intentions

Bad Decisions, Good Intentions

♫♪ “Turn up the lights in here baby. Extra bright, I want you to see this. Turn up the lights In here baby. You know what I need want you to see everything want you to see all the lights. Bad decisions, good intentions man I’m riding”♫♪ Drake – All of the Lights

Let me start by saying I am the Queen B of making bad decisions with good intentions. I met this guy Antonio on a double date I went on with my cousin. We vibed and he seemed down to earth so I gave him a second chance. We decided to link up at Outback because it was near my job. Usually I have a central rule no chain restaurants on the first few dates but I made an exception because I wasn't prepared for an upscale restaurant. That was the first bad decision, going against my rules. The second bad decision was going to the very Outback that my ex works at. I digress!

We met in the parking lot and proceeded to walk towards the restaurant and suddenly a black expedition is pulling off towards us slowly.  I see the window roll down, immediately my guard goes up and I’m like God please don’t let no bs happen tonight. I just can’t! All I hear is “Uh huh (ratchet voice) Tonio, I know you ain’t out here with these bitches and you supposed to have my son.” First I stopped and pondered why do I continue to make bad decisions. I turned to look at Antonio to see his reaction of the whole situation. Surprisingly, he was mad calm but seemed annoyed. He walks over to her and tries to diffuse the situation. The driver of the car was trying to tell the ratchetta to calm down and get back in the car. ‘Rachetta’ proceeds to yell out the window “He’s cheap! That’s the best he can do, take you to outback!”  I proceed to walk towards the restaurant, shaking my head and telling myself I am going to order the strongest drink Outback has to offer.

Antonio catches up with me and apologizes continuously. He explains to me that was his ex-wife-baby momma #1. He goes on and on about how they are through.  Upon my pre-investigation I already knew of the baby momma(s).  He tells me her attitude is one of the main reasons why they’re through.  I guess it was better to find out now rather than later. I should have ran soon as the car pulled up but instead I was hungry, bored and needed a good stiff drink. The best thing that I got from the two hour conversation about his baby momma(s) drama was he is an amazing single father. The rest is Charlie Brown womp, womp, womp. Through all of his talking I’m only sipping on a sprite because they are out of Jack Daniels. How can this be any worse of a date??  His card is declined and I’m pulling out my wallet paying for this date from HELL!!!!!!!

Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day | Find Free Testing Sites in DMV

Today is Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day and we could show you a million pics of what this illness could to your body just as a scare tactic as most do; but still many do not know why its important that Blacks promote awareness and testing in their communities. Besides the fact that HIV/AIDS is thought to be rampant amongst the gay community only (which is a very skewed perception), it's also a virus that can lie dormant in the body for up to 10 years. Leaving those who are unaware and refuse to get tested susceptible to spreading the disease and missing out on treatment to help them live longer lives. Still don't think its important to your community? Well we've got a few more hard hitting stats below to satisfy your curiosity and make you reconsider not caring about your status:

Via Kaiser Family Foundation
  • The number of new HIV infections per year among Blacks is down from its peak in the late 1980s, but has exceeded the number of infections among whites since that time.
  • In 2010, Black teens and young adults, ages 13-24, represented more than half (57%) of new HIV infections in that age group.
  • Blacks accounted for about half (48%) of deaths among people with an HIV diagnosis in 2010.
  • Black women account for the largest share of new HIV infections among women, and the incidence rate among Black women is 20 times the rate among white women and over 4 times the rate among Latinas.
  • Black women are most likely to have been infected through heterosexual transmission, the most common transmission route for women overall. White women are more likely to have been infected through injection drug use than Black women.

New Videos: Shakira ft. Rihanna, Big Sean ft. Miguel, Fabolous ft. Jeremih, and E-40 ft. Juicy J & Ty Dolla $ign

Shakira is back at it again and enlists the help of Rihanna to spice things up a notch. The song has a bit of a reggae background if you listen pass the typical "Shakira pop rock" guitar flow. Watch these two turn up the heat below:

Big Sean goes a little dark in this visual for his Miguel featured tune, "Ashley". There's kidnapping, gory violence, and coke fueled sex. Oh yeah, and it's def NSFW....

The next tune was penned as an ode to the chicks who are slim yet thick in the right places. From his Soul Tape 3 mixtape, check out the visual for Fabolous' - Thim Slick ft. Jeremih.

The last video of the week is a humorous one. Once you get pass the corny/slightly funny Nick Cannon Pimp intro and E-40's offbeat rhyming, you'll be sure to bob your head to the signature bay area type beats. And surprisingly enough, Juicy J came hard with some pretty tough bars, flow and all. Sum that up with Ty Dolla's catchy hook skills and this tune has potential to grow on us all. Check out the hilarious video below:

#ICYMI Superbowl Weekend Round Up: Horrible Game with Bomb Pre and After Parties and a Few Great Commercials:

Aside from the Broncos having the worst game play a modern day Super Bowl history and the Seahawks winning their first Super Bowl EVER, most people still celebrated before and after the nearly blowout game.

Prior to the big game day, New York was popping with mini concerts put on by the Kings of NY, Diddy & Jay-Z.

Diddy's event was hosted respectfully under the Revolt TV brand. It was an invite only party in the Time Warner Cable Studios. Drake headlined with French Montana.

But the biggest pre-Bowl party of the day Jigga Man's event, which attendees included Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lopez, Paul McCartney ane Eli Manning (not to be confused with his loser bro, Peyton) to name a few. The biggest surprise of the night was Beyonce's surprise appearance during Jay-Z's set where they performed Drunk In Love. As you can see from the pic below, Beyonce is still feeling herself, fugg the "moral" haters. #Surfbort

Lastly many attended the hip hop legend, Nas' Hennesy after party, where he also celebrated the 20 year anniversary of his debut album "Illmatic". King Bey and Jay Z were also in attendance to this invite only soriee.

Lastly, if you didn't give a damn about partying and was blown with how the game turned out, we hope you found solace with some of the commercials. Here's
some of our favorites below:

A Weekend with Belle

A Weekend with Belle

It’s not very often we get to commend a DC socialite like Demetria Lucas. Demetria Lucas is dubbed “The Black Carrie Bradshaw,” life coach and author, who has an award winning blog, A Belle In Brooklyn. She has majored in English with a degree from the University of Maryland and a Master’s degree in Journalism from New York University. Demetria has truly embarked on her career path to a successful empire. Demetria hosted a viewing party at the sophisticated and sexy Lima Lounge in Washington, DC over the weekend. Lima’s decor was a sight for fabulous eyes with eccentric tones of chocolate and maroon. Dim lights and a mellow setting made the room feel relaxing as if we were among close friends and family. The vibe was melodic by all means, the drinks were pouring and the DJ was spinning a great mix of top 40, hip-hop and R&B. They had several TVs premiering her latest venture, Blood, Sweat and Heels. DC’s belle greeted all of her guest with warm welcomes, pictures and autographs as well as a little Q&A to keep the anticipation of her new book Don’t Waste Your Pretty. The following day her Alma Marta, University of Maryland asked Demetria to host a meet and greet. The room was full of ambitious college intellects with big dreams of making a mark just as female phenomenon Demetria Lucas did. Demetria shared life stories, tips and laughter about her success. “Coming from the DMV with parents working in the government, "The idea of being in the entertainment industry was very far fetched." Which by no surprise most of the students could relate, as well as myself. She shared hope and motivation to students that were interested in the industry to be proactive and to make that next move. “I was gonna stay and miss the opportunity. I needed the benefits of a regular corporate job and I needed all the things you were told you needed:” The host of events were a complete success filled with great tips, laughs, food and people! I must say as a DMV native I am proud to have such a strong intellectual black female represent people like me the young, ambitious and glamorous. ~In the words of Miss K~
