A Weekend with Belle
It’s not very often we get to commend a DC socialite like Demetria Lucas.
Demetria Lucas is dubbed “The Black Carrie Bradshaw,” life coach and author, who has an award winning blog, A Belle In Brooklyn. She has majored in English with a degree from the University of Maryland and a Master’s degree in Journalism from New York University. Demetria has truly embarked on her career path to a successful empire.
Demetria hosted a viewing party at the sophisticated and sexy Lima Lounge in Washington, DC over the weekend. Lima’s decor was a sight for fabulous eyes with eccentric tones of chocolate and maroon. Dim lights and a mellow setting made the room feel relaxing as if we were among close friends and family. The vibe was melodic by all means, the drinks were pouring and the DJ was spinning a great mix of top 40, hip-hop and R&B. They had several TVs premiering her latest venture, Blood, Sweat and Heels.
DC’s belle greeted all of her guest with warm welcomes, pictures and autographs as well as a little Q&A to keep the anticipation of her new book Don’t Waste Your Pretty. The following day her Alma Marta, University of Maryland asked Demetria to host a meet and greet. The room was full of ambitious college intellects with big dreams of making a mark just as female phenomenon Demetria Lucas did. Demetria shared life stories, tips and laughter about her success. “Coming from the DMV with parents working in the government, "The idea of being in the entertainment industry was very far fetched." Which by no surprise most of the students could relate, as well as myself. She shared hope and motivation to students that were interested in the industry to be proactive and to make that next move. “I was gonna stay and miss the opportunity. I needed the benefits of a regular corporate job and I needed all the things you were told you needed:”
The host of events were a complete success filled with great tips, laughs, food and people! I must say as a DMV native I am proud to have such a strong intellectual black female represent people like me the young, ambitious and glamorous.
