#GlaMaRecommends Check Yourself Before You Wreck Someone Else with a Hashtag/Meme: #JadaPose

When hashtags and memes go too far: I understand that we live in a fairly insensitive time where memes can make even the most shameful of news stories become humorous to the masses. However, there is a time and place where lines of discretion must be drawn; especially in the case of the #JadaPose. The hashtag is derived from a horrible story with a young 16 year old girl that was drugged and raped at a house party. Unfortunately, this occurs far too often, but what does not is someone’s rape being broadcasted through social media via video and later as a hashtag provoking poses like a new age planking joke. Jada went on to speak out against what happened to her which was met with a mix of support and negativity

As Jada's Family advisor Quanell X said, social media has been the gift and the curse#GlaMaRecommends that we think before we jump on every trending topic or meme that could be deemed seriously insensitive. Whether people knew if she was lying on the ground disheveled and contorted for fun or from being harmed, this teenage girl exists and surely was pictured in a negative light. There have been previous issues where people with mental disabilities, impaired judgment and even children were made into memes that will follow them for the rest of their lives, generally against their will. So let this be a lesson to everyone of how deep these memes and words can cut. Enjoy social media, but have some tact while you’re at it.
