Zendaya Coleman Pulls Out of Lifetime's Aaliyah Biopic

Well this is news! After all the issues and drama (including my own) stirred up over her nabbing this controversial role, Zendaya Coleman has officially pulled out of the Aaliyah Biopic.

Via Entertainment Weekly:
Lifetime has confirmed that Zendaya Coleman, the 17-year-old best known as the star of Disney Channel’s Shake It Up! and as a breakout on Dancing With the Stars, will no longer be starring in the cable channel’s upcoming Aaliyah biopic, Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B (working title).
“We are sad Zendaya will no longer portray Aaliyah. Production is currently on hold,” the network’s PR team confirmed Sunday on its Twitter feed. The casting of Coleman, whose own 2013 single “Replay” spent 21 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, was announced June 16.
A rep for Coleman confirmed to EW that Zendaya is no longer involved in the project but no reason was given.

However E! News reported:
A source told E! News that there were production issues, including problems obtaining the rights to Aaliyah’s music. The R&B star and Queen of the Damned actress died at age 22 in a plane crash on Aug. 25, 2001.
“Aaliyah has always been an inspiration to Zendaya,” the source said. “She was honored to portray her and pay tribute to her. If she is going to do it, she wants to do it right.”

Welp, whatever the issue was, it's about time for some sort of film to come out. Aaliyah has been gone for 10+ years (Just shy of 15 frankly) and TLC, James Brown, and Ray Charles  have all surpassed her in producing some sort of commemorative film; and they all had passings after hers. #GlaMARecommends that Aaliyah's family loosen the reigns a bit, before the novelty wares off.
